The Exchange Short Film Analysis AND Evaluation

Analysis my Short Film

SHOT SIZES

SELF EVALUATION

I have all the eight relevant shot sizes in my video, long medium, close up, cut-in etc. I had nine shots altogether two of which were wide shots. The shots were all quite correct but the camera while shooting could have been more stable.

PEER EVALUATION

You have used a good variety of shot sizes and a selection of shots. All of the eight main shots were there all of which were shot alright.

COMPOSITION

SELF EVALUATION

I haven’t used the rule of thirds in ‘The Exchange’ because I personally thought that the shots looked better especially the wide shots while central of the shot.

PEER EVALUATION

All your shots are in the centre, the walking shot is good. Although the clip is really well done it feels that the camera wasn’t close enough while filming.

FOCUS

SELF EVALUATION

All of the shots were in good focus, this is with exception to one shot where the extreme close up had shown a bit of a blur to it.

PEER EVALUATION

All of your shots but one were focused. The Extreme Close Up was a good shot to fit in but was very blurry.

EDITING

SELF EVALUATION

I believe that the editing of the video makes sense how the shots link in together to create a flow of the story of ‘the exchange’ taking place, it shows continuity.

PEER EVALUATION

Your editing flows well and the way you used facial expressions in the shots were good. The cuts and transitions were done and added well.

TITLES

SELF EVALUATION

I think the title and text were added effectively on the video clip because of how transitions fade the titles in and out of the shot.

PEER EVALUATION

I like how your titles overlap the video and the font was very elegant.

SOUND

SELF EVALUATION

I did not use sound after production as I thought it looked suitable and told the story well with the use of sound and music in the process of it.

PEER EVALUATION

You haven’t used no sound, so it could do with some music.

IMPROVEMENT

Areas for improvement in the future I think would be the composition and to use the rule of threes to make the video look more effective.

The focus could have been better so I would try to improve upon this in the future as well.

However the main stream to go down for improvement would be to add sound or music to give the viewers something to here other than silence during the duration of the video clip.

Overview of the Production Process

PRE-PRODUCTION

Before you can start and go out there and begin with production, you have to plan out what is going to happen before you do it.

The first piece of pre-production I did was to create a storyboard. On the storyboard I was able to briefly sketch out all the shots and write below the sketches what was happening and the type of shot I was doing, e.g Long Shot LS , Close Up CU etc.

Another piece of research would be learning the actual types of other shots there are in the production process and how you can used different angles to create a better piece of work.

PRODUCTION

After the pre-production is done and dusted, you can start to get out and film you video/clip.

Firstly I had to know how to use the camera and gather the equipment, tripod, camera, props etc. so I could get out there and film.

Once we got the equipment we went to the location (Park) to film, I had to use the camera to record the footage and direct the video/clip so the cast knew what they were doing. We went to the park for a quiet less crowded location to film.

POST-PRODUCTION

After pro-production and the actual production it was time to edit. I imported the clips onto the program and was able to change the starting point and erase and media which has not proper use. I added titles and who directed it in the video and exported this as a finished file.

After this and editing I created a document that explored how I developed the editing process by taking screen shots of my edited work and annotated why and how I had done this.
