EVALUATION

Write a short 300 word (min) evaluation mentioning all of the following areas with examples.

  • A summary of the roles you have researched above.

After visiting Media City UK, the College Live Event, as well as completing some research that there are a wide variety of TV Job roles available in media. During our BBC Studio’s tour, our tour guide fully explained how the studio’s we looked at were used and the production crew included in the making of a programme.

Likewise the Event at the Corn Exchange, on a smaller scale, had a rather large production crew included. These ranged from roles in animation, where they were projecting patterns on a screen, to camera operators, where the footage would be recorded and transmitted onto the screen.

The job roles of which I’ve now researched reflected on how a set and production team fully works. The director’s job was to have a creative view to a project and to control the making of a specific project and would work with actors and technical crew on locations or sets. A Vision Mixer’s job involves editing a programme live, they use several types of transitions such as cuts, wipes etc to flow the programme from one shot/scene to the other.

In Sound the job mainly involves recording very good quality sounds on location and in studios as well, the work with boom operators and sound supervisors to ensure that sound is recorded clearly. For a VT Operator’s job, it involves managing and operating equipment and fixing equipment if one piece goes wrong, they also tape copies of fm and label them.

A job in Camera involves ensuring that the rigs and cameras/equipment are in working order and ready for the shots to be taken. A Floor Manager’s job involves making sure and managing on a film or television production and that everythings goes to plan in their managing area. A Host or Talent job involves hosting and occupying people while they are in the process of producing for a show or programme.

Despite having the few job titles listed for a live TV production there can be multiple of these on one single project/production so that the programme flows well and all goes to plan.

  • Images from both the trip to Media City and the college Live Event.
