Cameras - How they work
A Camera takes pictures. It can take these as still or moving pictures (films/videos etc)
The shutter on a camera is a section on the device that can let light come through for a specific time. This is so light can be exposed to a sensor or photo film to be able to catch a still picture of something that is in front of you.
^Example of the speed of the shutters per second. You can see that it is clearer when the shutter it open for a brief period in time eg 1/160.^
The aperture of a camera is the central bit that allows the light to get into the camera in order to take an image. The aperture size depends on the amount of light entering the camera and is measured in f-stops.
^Above represent the higher the f-stops eg f/22 the less light enters giving the shot a lead to a good image.^
After the light has travelled through the aperture it is caught (the image) by the lens that brings its focus to the film. The size and amount of light from the aperture and the scene indicates how much light gets into the camera at any one time. Controlling the time is the shutter that will make sure light won’t enter.

Complete the table below – listing at least five of the rules & regulations discussed today about working safely in the photo workshop – you also need to give your reasons why these rules are important.
Health & Safety - Photo Studio & Darkroom
Regulation
Reason
Revolving Door Turning
Knock on door first to make sure people know you're going through it. Only one person at a time can go in it. Turn the door so you can exit the other side.
Chemicals
Do not play with them. Keep them on the table so none drip on floors as people could slip and get hurt by them.
Wear suitable clothes
As chemicals will burn the clothing so maybe an apron could be used to prevent this.
Keep wet stuff on table and keep dry side dry.
As there are electric and volts going through it.
Keep emergency exit door locked.
As the door will let light in that will spoil other people's work.
Dry hands.
As can spoil result of images if wet and you need to make sure there are no chemicals on them.

Focal length & the f-stop
Focal length
The focal length is the distance from the lens or the pinhole the image is taken an image off.
F-stop
The f-stop is the distance from the pinhole onto the distance of the paper. This is measured in millimeters. The the distance of the pinhole to the paper is divided by the diameter of the pinhole, so (0.8mm)
What was the Focal length and f-stop of my Pinhole Camera?
The f-stop of my pinhole camera is 91.25.
73 divided by 0.8 = f-91.25.
How did this affect my exposure times?
Base on above this told me how much I had to expose my pinhole camera for. If it was exposed for too long there was quite a lot of darkness around it it, however, the opposite happened when the exposure time was to short it went very white and blank.

Analysis of Radio Adverts
Coca-Cola Radio Advert
MUSIC-The Coca-Cola Advert has used jumpy/ energetic music to introduce the product. This gives people the sense that it is a fun drink that you would have for parties etc and gives a person a boost in the day.
SPEECH-In the ad you hear a person keep going ‘Ahh!’ this influences the listeners to think that the drink is refreshing and nice to have. The speech in the ad also promotes Coca-Cola to people as it is very strong the way they get across their message that, if you drink Coca-Cola you’ll feel refreshed.
McDonald's Radio Advert
MUSIC-The music in the background of the advert seems to sound calm and joyful, I think they’ve done this to bring more attention on the food product and that you’ll get a merry feeling to it if you try it.
SPEECH-The ad adds some humour to it where a person interrupts another and gets told to ‘get out of his inner monologue’ which I quite like as it brings a fun side to an advert. The speech is quite fast so it might get people thinking that he’s talking fast, maybe he’s got no time to waste, they have to get a McDonalds meal now. But it also brings the effect that he’s blown away by the promotion that they are offering, encouraging people that it’s only £1.50 for example and they should get one while they can.
KFC Radio Advert
MUSIC-The music in the background is also quite tense making people feel on the edge almost as if they have to try some quickly before it is too late.
SPEECH-The way the promoter speaks in an eerie accent and voice gets the listeners kind of hooked into the advert wanting to hear what all the drama’s about. We hear a female’s voice who doesn’t seem to believe that the products are what they are who over exaggerates the effect that the food will give. The way the advert is scripted brings a great effect on those listening as it brings good use of comedy to the ad that has been made to sound quite scary and impossible. Using eerie persuasive language like KFC has done really brings out the message that they want to get across.
Differences - How they differ
All three adverts bring a different effect on the listener as the Coca-Cola ad is very energetic and persuasive with speech that sounds very relaxed, whereas the McDonald’s ad makes the product seem that it’s worth the price as the use of an interrupted conversation brings a good comedic effect on those listing. The KFC ad is very different in respect to speech compared to the other two ads as it brings people on the edge and makes the product seem quite mystic. Although all the ads use very persuasive language, they all use a difference of speech and how the voiceovers use a variation of ways they speak to send the listener a great sense of persuasion.

ANIMATION GLOSSARY
In the boxes below please write YOUR OWN definition of these terms. Remember the powerpoint is there is you need to check or refresh yourself. Use examples & images if you want as this is YOUR glossary.
ANIMATION DEFINITION
Animation's a series of still images that gives us the impression that the images are moving.
WHAT IS PERSISTENCE OF VISION?
The persistence of vision is the amount of images a person can input per second.
WHAT IS A KEYFRAME?
A point in animation that are defined but a set of parameters.
WHAT IS ONION SKINNING?
Seeing the previous frame faintly on a new frame so you can change bits according to movement before.
WHAT IS A STORYBOARD?
A storyboard shows you the different shots and the actions that are happening with a brief description below each storyboard segment.
WHATS FRAME BY FRAME ANIMATION?
This is when an object appears for example on one side of the table and moves to the other side by people moving it. Every move is shot frame by frame to give the impression that it is moving on its own.
WHAT IS REGISTRATION?
Keeps all paper and work together in line so there are no mistakes so the shot will work.
WHAT IS FRAME RATE?
Measures how many frames there are per second for example fps.
WHAT IS DOUBLING?
Instead of doing two times the work you double each frame to get 24fps.
3 TYPES OF ANIMATION
Please give all of the following for these types of animation.
A definition of the type of animation.
Explain the different styles within this type of animation.
An one example and the name of the person behind this type.
Hyperlink to an animated example of that type of animation.
2D ANIMATION
Cell & Hand-drawn
2D Animation Involves multiple drawn images all slightly being different from one and other. They get put together at so many frames per second. You can have cell which can happen in film and hand-drawn were the same image is represented slightly different again to give the illusion of movement.
An example of 2D Animation would be ‘The Snowman and the Snowdog’ screenplay by Raymond Briggs.

STOP MOTION ANIMATION
Claymation, Pixilation & Cut-out
Stop Motion Animation ‘clay motion’ is when a picture of a model eg ‘Morph’ is taken at every slight movement of the model to create the illusion that the still figure is moving.
An example of Stop Motion Animation would be ‘Wallace and Gromit’ and ‘Shaun the Sheep’ created by Nick Park.

COMPUTER ANIMATION
3D CGI, Computer and Motion Graphics
Computer Animation is when images created digitally are at every frame that can make it seem that it is moving. This can also be special effects for a film or something as it is an animation on screen of something realistic that looks like it's moving.
An Example of Computer Animation is ‘UP’ directed by Pete Docter and Bob Peterson.

ANIMATION PROCESS
Under the headings below please document the processes you went
through to create your animations. Please add images, screenshots or photos to illustrate these stages wherever possible. Consider and mention all of the following things when writing these up.
Process from start to finish.
Materials. List everything you used.
Skills you used.
Creativity you needed.
Technology you used.
Teamwork you may have needed.
ANIMATION PROCESS 1
To begin with I had to gather the materials I needed to be able to go through the process of doing my animation. These included a pen/fineliner and A4 white paper and registration with makes the paper stay in line as the previous page was.
Once everything was gathered, I had taken a piece of paper and drawn the first frame. After each drawing you get a fresh piece of paper and start a new frame for the animation to continue making sure I numbered each page so I knew the correct order of the frames for actually making the images get animated. I needed to use average art skills so I could draw my animation and it gave a good image of what I have done, also creativeness came into it as I had used my name as the title and made it come onto the page and come off gradually.
Once all the frames were drawn out I used a couple of pieces of technology. I went into the room with the Rostrum and used this piece of machinery to take photos of the frames. I had to make sure the pictures were in the same place each time they were photoed so the end result was pleasing. The software I used was Stop Motion Pro V7 and after each photo of the frame had been taken you clicked enter to catch it.
A small amount of teamwork was needed as the task of drawing the frames was very independent, however, when it came to using the software and taking the images I paired with someone who clicked enter for me while I changed the different frames I had drawn. After the process I watch the whole animation.
ANIMATION PROCESS 2
Logged onto the computer and opened up Google. To begin with I had to select a picture of a person and a background for later use. Once I got these I removed any whitespace or backgrounds on Adobe Photoshop so I can use these images on Adobe After Effects I save the images on my space.
I opened up Adobe After Effects and imported my pictures from my file. I clicked on my image ‘Spider Man’ and dragged it onto the allocated work space area.
I used keyframes by clicking on the pin at the top of the page and placing them on specific parts of the images ‘Spiderman’s’ Body. As these were done this made me able to move the person’s arms and legs. Once one part had been moved I would enter another keyframe so that I could continue at a later time and at a later movement. I used the rule of three on my short animation and put Spider man in the far right side allowing for more background and text to be seen I think this gave a good effect other than being smack in the middle of the movie.
Once the movements were done I dragged over my background I had selected and placed that behind the current image. And made this fit into the space covering the whole area.
The next step afterwards was to add text such as a title to explain what it is Spider Man was trying to do. I used a reasonable text fitting nicely with the short animation I had created.
After the process of the actual animation was complete I had to convert it into a quickdraw or movie so it could play and work elsewhere. Once I did this I was able to watch my film out of the application and standing on its own.
No teamwork was needed just my-self independently.
ANIMATION SMART TARGETS
Reflecting back on your camerawork session what are the areas you need to or want to improve upon. These may be areas you did well but want to get stronger in OR areas that you found difficult and want to improve and become proficient in. A minimum of 2 targets.
